Oct 1943, the Philadelphia Docks, USA: The USS Eldridge is subjected to a magnetic fields experiment by the US Government. Carl Allen, a sailor watches as the ship turn invisible. He says nothing of the incident... ...Until, twelve years later: Allen blows the lid on the Philadelphia Experiment in a letter to ufologist Dr Morris Jessup. Post-experiment, the crew of the Eldridge had been seen to spontaneously combust and get stuck in other dimensions. 1957: The Navy sends Dr Jessup a copy of his own book, A Case for the UFO. It is annotated with notes regarding UFO propulsion systems. Two years later: Dr Jessup is found dead in his car by probable suicide. He had stumbled across the Navy's greatest secret and paid the price. ...or had he? Carl Allen was the only alleged witness to the 1943 experiment or any of the spectacular after effects. There was no further evidence. Dr Jessup had already ceased communications with Allen, whom he considered unreliable, when he received the book. He recognized the handwritten annotations as the work of Allen. Prior to his death, Dr Jessup's wife had left him and his publisher had turned down his latest manuscript. Depressed, he did tragically commit suicide. In 1969, Carl Allen confessed that he had made up the entire sensational story. Was he a fantasist or was he forced into a false confession?
